The great fifteenth-century historian, Jan Dlugosz, mentions Skoczów as the first town on the Upper Vistula. As you can see already it must have already been a pretty big town. Unfortunately, due to the devastating fires and floods in the following centuries, there are no traces of those times. However, a medieval town layout, with a large, centrally located market, dominated by the town hall, and a grid street plan has survived to this day
